Abstract:
Today, a gap exists in reporting web metrics. Standard metrics tools do not have the ability to combine information about web resources with product-level details, such as the number of full-text downloads or specific user queries. This project will develop a prototype web metrics analysis system for the use of digital libraries that specialize in scientific and technical information (STI). The prototype system will provide mechanisms for analyzing and reporting web traffic patterns, electronic full-text downloads, and user queries. This functionality will encompass the analysis of, and reporting on, the entire digital library environment, including specific information-dissemination products in the digital library, and subject category or other classification means within the dissemination products. Commercial Applications and other Benefits as described by the awardee The web metrics analysis system would enable curators of STI digital library environments to use the full range of data collected to improve decision-making processes.
