Intelligent Automation Inc. (IAI) proposes a nanosensor based thin-film cartridge to aid in conjunction with a geospatial mote network to monitor biological threat agents on range soils and battlefields. The capability to quickly detect and classify different biological warfare agents (BWAs) will provide ample time for soldiers and law enforcement personnel to prepare and counteract. The key innovations of the proposed plug and use cartridge include: a) the use of a miniature, low-cost, and commercially available mass-sensitive transducer to ensure the high sensitivity, b) the use of Molecularly Imprinted Polymers (MIPs) receptor and DNA aptamers coatings to greatly enhance the sensor’s selectivity and sensitivity for different BWAs, c) the design of a compact, low power consumption circuit for data acquisition and analysis for the mote, and d) plug and use cartridge with motes for different bioagents with response time of detection in minutes. The key advantages of the system are (1) Simple, compact, and low cost, (2) High sensitivity and selectivity, (3) Long-lasting (4) No wet process, and (5) Automatic data acquisition and interpretation on Plug and Use
