Displaying Tailored Real-time Information in Multi-Crew Cockpits
Agency / Branch:
DOD / USAF
The effort proposed in this Phase II SBIR is focused on the design and development of a Dynamic Information Manager (DIM) to improve situational awareness, reduce task saturation and enhance the real-time information handling, coordination, management, and response capabilities of the B-1B aircrew to find, identify, and attack mobile and concealed targets in all weather conditions while avoiding associated threats. The DIM will integrate pilot displays, on-board laptop computer and aircraft 1553 data bus to achieve improved data distribution and coordination capabilities through the display of information that is tailored to the needs of individual crew members. The design will accommodate the seamless integration of planned future capabilities. Planned software enhancements to the laptop computer will add mission capabilities, achieve a more balanced workload and improve situational awareness among the crew. A second objective is to enhance human-system integration (HSI) of the crew. JXT will develop a fully functional prototype DIM and provide it to the B-1B community for field test and evaluation. Such revisions as are needed will be made to support Phase III commercialization and production.
