Multi-Resolution Streaming for Remote Scalable Visualization
With larger computers producing unprecedented amounts of data, data sizes are now approaching petascale. This poses problems to scientists and engineers who wish to view the data. While in the past it was feasible to copy data from a supercomputer to a local computing center for follow-on post-processing, the large data sets make this nearly impossible. Hence, there is a need for solutions that enable remote viewing of data, where the data, once computed, remains on the supercomputer facility that produced it. This project will extend previously developed visualization tools to create a general, scalable framework for remote visualization of data. The new framework will be structured to treat additional forms of data, including unstructured grids. The enhanced visual analysis tool should enable these techniques to be used more effectively; therefore, the market potential for this technology is measured in the hundreds of millions of dollars.
