Abstract:
In Phase I of the Integrated Product Data environment (IPDE), KBSI proposes a concept study that integrates product data and provides easy access to this data across a network for engineers whose tasks-have-been reengineered for the IPDE. KBSI will identify the legacy data sources, establish requirements for COTS Computer-Aided Design (CAD), Computer-Aided Manufacture (CAM), Computer-Aided Engineering (CAE), Product Data Management,(PDM), Computer-Aided Reverse Engineering (CARE), and Computer-Aided Legacy Data Conversion (CALDC) software for use in the IPDE, establish a procedure for integrating legacy databases and legacy data, establish a procedure for re-engineering processes for use-with the IIDPE, and develop a plan for developing a prototype IPDE. A scenario demonstrating the potential of IPDE will also be selected in Phase I. The scenario will demonstrate the IDPE for an aircraft grounded by a critical part failure (MICAP). In the scenario, the engineering team will 1) retrieve data indexed from national stock number, to retrieve procurement history, inventory technical orders, and drawings, 2) reverse engineer data from existing parts and drawings, 3) perform finite-element analysis on the part, 4) generate numerical control code, and 5) manufacturing the part.
