Abstract:

The goal of the BRAMS effort is to develop a Blood Reserve Availability Assessment, Tracking, and Management System that will supplement the Joint Medical Asset Repository (JMAR) by allowing users to manually enter data via a web-based system. The BRAMS Phase I effort successfully developed a web interface for collecting blood data and exporting that blood data to JMAR in the format specified by the JMAR Interface Control Document. The Phase I effort implemented data integrity mechanisms to ensure that the data entered is valid, clean, and not duplicated by other data sources. In addition to extending the data coverage of the JMAR, the Phase I project used data mining and knowledge based analyses to develop proactive problem identification and resolution capabilities. Phase II objectives include: (1) refine and harden BRAMS for deployment in Phase III, (2) deploy and test BRAMS within selected user communities, (3) test and harden the BRAMS/JMAR interface by sending the data to the JMAR, (4) extend BRAMS functionality and transition BRAMS technology to the civilian sector, (5) facilitate blood data transfer to programs such as CIP and BASIS, and (6) research and conceptualize visionary ideas for the long term, efficient management of blood inventories.
