Abstract

THE PROPOSED RESEARCH WILL DEVELOP A P-VERSION OF THE FINITE ELEMENT ALTERNATING METHOD (FEA). THE P-VERSION OF THE FEAM WILL ALLOW FOR THE ACCURATE CALCULATION OF FRACTURE PARAMETERS WHILE MINIMIZING THE MODELING EFFORT REQUIRED OF THE USER. THESE TWO BENEFITS WILL MAKE THE FRACTURE MECHANICS COMPUTATIONS NECESSARY FOR THE PREDICTION OF THE RESIDUAL LIFE OF AIRCRAFT STRUCTURES MORE COST EFFECTIVE, AS COMPARED TO EXISTING COMPUTATIONAL TECHNIQUES.
