Abstract:

In Phase I, Kutta Consulting defined and detailed its vision for a Dismounted Associate (DA) that gives America's soldiers over-the-hill battlefield intelligence. Kutta, however, did not act alone. AATD, Boeing Phantom Works, General Dynamics, Advanced Ceramics Research, Neural Robotics Incorporated, 21st Century Systems, and numerous user groups contributed significant concepts, subject matter expertise, and resources that shaped Kutta's Phase I results. During Phase II, Kutta builds the Dismounted Associate (DA), integrates agent-based decision aides, researches advanced functions, and demonstrates the DA's functionality. Kutta uses its proven software development process to create and refine the DA's functionality. Advanced features such as flight planning, look-there, follow-me, and BDA are developed and supported by robust, intelligent agents. The DA is designed for hands-free control of the UAV, and is adapted to the specific UAV's "personality" and the user's modus operandi via individual Personality Modules. As development progresses, the DA is subjected to increasingly sophisticated tests, simulations, and demonstrations, culminating in both fixed wing (SilverFox) and rotary wing (AutoCopter) flight demonstrations. The strength of Kutta's Phase I results, Phase II methodology, and partners' expertise ensures Kutta will produce a viable Dismounted Associate at the end of Phase II.
