Propulsion/Navigation Integrated Universal Driver's Display Unit (UDD)
Agency / Branch:
DOD / NAVY
KVH Industries proposes to develop a proof-of-principle Universal Driver's Display (UDD) for the Amphibious Assault Vehicle (AAV7A1). The UDD will comprise a flat-faced, color-capable screen with co-located electronics and integrated with engine sensors and the magnetic compass. We will use our commercial Quadro "PowerWatch"TM digital instrument system hardware for the proof-of-principle system. The screen will continuously display vehcile speed and engine speed as well as magnetic compass heading information. The system will have the capability to conduct continuous background monitoring of several power plant functions, log out-of-limits conditions, and display them as visual alarms. Embedded software and non-volatile memory will permit downloading of logged exceptions to an offboard computer for troubleshooting and maintenance diagnosis. The proof-of-principle UDD will be used to conduct user and sponsor surveys to aid in the development of a systems specification for a Phase II fully functional digital UDD. The demonstration will prove the feasibility to our design and will afford an oportunity for constructive input from the Marine Corps for further system refinement and enhancements.
