Abstract:

A TACTICAL OPERATIONS CENTER (TDC) CAN BE MODELLED BY A DISTRIBUTED PROBLEM-SOLVING ENVIRONMENT. ONE OF THE FUNCTIONS OF A TDC IS THE GATHERING AND INTERPRETATION OF INTELLIGENCE . THE REQUIREMENTS FOR INTERPRETATION OF INTELLIGENCE MAKE SEVERE DEMANDS ON AVAILABLE PERSONNEL DURING COMBAT SITUATIONS DUE TO THE LARGE AMOUNTS OF INFORMATION AN ITS UNRELIABILITY. WE PROPOSE TO STUDY A DISTRIBUTED PROBLEM-SOLVING DESIGN FOR INTERACTIVE FUSION OF INTELLIGENCE. WE WILL INVESTIGATE THE USE OF A NON-DIRECTIONAL CONTROL PROCEDURE THAT WE HAVE DEVELOPED AND FOUND USEFUL IN OTHER CONTEXTS. WE WE PROPOSE TO REPRESENT THE ANALYSIS OF INTELLIGENCE AS A HIERARCHY OF SPECIALISTS THAT CAN WORK TOGETHER. WE ALSO PROPOSE TO INVESTIGATE A PARALLEL VERSION OF THE CONTROL PROCEDURE THAT COULD GREATLY INCREASE THE PROCESSING SPEED. FINALLY,WE PLAN TO INVESTIGATE METHODS FOR COMBINING BELIEFS FROM VARIOUS EXPERTS. THIS PROBLEM IS VERY IMPORTANT BECAUSE OF THE OVERLAPPING AND CONTRIDICTORY NNATURE THAT IS INHERENT IN INTELLIGENCE FUSION.
