Abstract:
THE PROPOSED RESEARCH ADDRESSES A NEED FOR A WORKABLE METHODOLOGY FOR RECORDING THE ENERGY FORCES FROM DIRECT AND SLIDING (ABRASION) CONTACTS ON ANTHROPOMORPHIC DEVICES WITHIN THE INTERIOR OF A VEHICLE ON IMPACT. THE SCOPE OF THIS PROPOSAL IS TO DETERMINE FEASIBILITY OF INCORPORATING CALIBRATED PRESSURE SENSITIVE MICROENCAPSULATED DYE (MED) SENSORS INTO A COATING THAT ADHERES TO ANTHROPOMORPHIC CRASH TEST DEVICE MATERIALS; AND, AT DIFFERENT DYNAMIC IMPACT ENERGY LEVELS WILL RUPTURE. THE RELEASED SENSORS, DESIGNED TO REFLECT DIFFERENT ENERGY LEVELS OF CONTUSION AND ABRASION TYPE IMPACTS, WILL BE DETECTED USING SPECTROSCOPIC PROBES AND DETECTION INSTRUMENTATION TO RECORD THE ENERGY LEVEL AND INCIDENCES OF RESULTANT DYE RELEASE.
