Abstract:
Mainstream has a long and successful history of developing useful, easy-to-use hardware for heat and cooling applications [3-37]. This Phase I effort will investigate and demonstrate the use of hydrogen-powered food service system. Phase I will systematically investigate and define the best approach to integrate hydrogen fuel into food service operations. Included will be a study to determine optimum storage, transmission, and utilization methods. Based on the results of this study a conceptual model of a complete hydrogen-powered food service facility will be developed to demonstrate benefits and characterize the salient technical features (weight, cube, fuel usage and storage capacity, output). Phase I will also investigate the basic operating conditions required by the Army and design and demonstrate a working proof-of-principal prototype (to allow Army engineers to completely evaluate the concept's feasibility). Phase II will result in a development of fieldable-hardware for demonstration and evaluation in the field.
