Title:
High Density Hydrogen Storage in Cellular Gas Storage Tanks
Agency / Branch:
DOD / USAF
Contract:
FA8501-04-C-0033
Award Amount:
$750,000.00
Abstract:
The overall objective of this Small Business Innovation Research Phase II project is to develop a technology to produce an advanced high-pressure cellular hydrogen storage system with enhanced conformability (space utilization) and safety to support fuel cell based ground vehicles for military and commercial applications as well as promote wide-spread transition to fuel cell technologies industry-wise. During the course of this program, MER will accomplish the technical feasibility of the proposed system demonstrated in Phase I by optimizing its structural components, developing advanced FEM-based computer model allowing instant generation of system parameters in response to changing system requirements, addressing potential system integration with fuel cell and/or high-pressure electrolyzer, producing and fully characterizing the prototype, and delivering a fully operational unit compatible with existing vehicle identified by the Air Force.
