The use of 100 % F2 puts stringent requirements on the gas handling system, requiring passivation. The damage due to this surface passivation layer caused by the impinging particles causes the system failure. This Phase II proposal offers a highly integrated solution to this problem. It builds, on a highly successful Phase I, which demonstrated impermeable, F2 resistant, functionally grated (FGM) composite/ceramic tubes. The Phase II provides several additional, highly unique features. It offers a F2 resistant filter, adaptable to both this proposals handling system and the current metallic system improving its limits. The filters will be made of a fluorinated ceramic, with microstructure designed for enhanced toughness. A unique, all ceramic sealing systems will be made, rendering the systems impermeable at 400 psi and provide both ceramic-ceramic and metal-ceramic connection in the same component.
