Title:
High Temperature Corrosion Resistant Nanocomposite Materials for Turbine Engine Applications
Agency / Branch:
DOD / DARPA
Contract:
W31P4Q-08-C-0043
Award Amount:
$750,000.00
Abstract:
Materials Modification, Inc. proposes the development of novel ceramic compositions for thermal barrier coatings on turbines. Phase I demonstrated the successful development of these coating compositions. These compositions offer both higher temperature survivability and sulfur corrosion resistance compared to YSZ. A rigorous evaluation of the coatings will also be carried out in the Phase II effort in order to obtain a coating that exhibits self-cleaning action and has excellent adhesion to the substrate. Optimal coatings will be tested to validate their flight worthiness.
