Abstract

POLY-X(TM) RESINS, A NEW CLASS OF RIGID-ROD THERMPLASTICS WILL BE INVESTIGATED FOR POTENTIAL USE IN AIRCRAFT CABIN INTERIORS. THE POLY-X(TM) POLYMERS ARE THE STIFFEST KNOWN THERMOPLASTICS WITH TENSILE MODULI OF 10 GPA. BECAUSE OF THEIR HIGH STIFFNESS AND STRENGTH IT IS PROPOSED THAT THEY MAY MAKE POSSIBLE LIGHTER STRUCTURES FOR AIRCRAFT INTERIORS. IT IS ALSO EXPECTED THAT THESE NEW RESINS WILL HAVE VERY GOOD FLAME RESISTANCE AND RATE HIGHLY FOR FLAME, SMOKE AND TOXICITY (FST).
