Abstract:
MaXentric is proposing to design, develop and evaluate an automatic identification technology (AIT) prototype system. Although it is based on the concept of radio frequency identification (RFID), the new system is label-based and chip-less. In addition, it is HERO safe at zero standoff because it operates in millimeter wavelengths, which allows a smaller safe separation distance compared to other typical frequencies used for AIT. The phase II of the project involves considerable efforts to implement the ideas in hardware and software. On the hardware front, a reliable test and measurement setup shall be constructed in order to determine instances of false alarms, assess environmental challenges, investigate leakage issues, and help to characterize the labels. On the software front, signal processing algorithms from electrical engineering shall be used to perform system tasks including characterization and identification of labels. Proper performance evaluations are conducted at each step. In the end, all efforts shall lead to the development of a VERA portal system prototype.
