Abstract:
McQ will build upon its extensive experience with unattended ground sensors (UGS) to develop a complete system for the detection and verification of personnel and vehicle intrusions at military facilities. During Phase I we expanded the capabilities of our current acoustic algorithms as well as investigated new ones. As part of Phase I we (1) evaluated variants of our speech activity detection schemes that include both energy based and feature based detection methods; (2) developed additional speech detection algorithms derived from conventional Speech Activity Detection methods; (3) evaluated extensions to our fundamental and harmonic vehicle detection methods and (4) investigated velocity based and spatial based discriminators. These investigations showed that high performance acoustic detection and discrimination of targets of interest is feasible. During Phase I we also showed that high performance can be achieved with very low energy consumption. During Phase II we will continue algorithm research for additional performance enhancements. Using our OmniSenser UGS system as a development platform, we will also design, develop, test and deliver a complete preproduction prototype acoustic detection sensor system. This system will then become available to the Army as part of the McQ OmniSenser family of unattended ground sensor systems.
