Abstract:
PERVAPORATION IS A PROMISING NEW MEMBRANE PROCESS FOR THE SEPARATION OF SOLVENT MIXTURES. MEMBRANE TECHNOLOGY AND RESEARCH, INC., HAS BEEN DEVELOPING PERVAPORATION SYSTEMS FOR THE PAST THREE YEARS USING THIN-FILM COMPOSITE MEMBRANESIN SPIRAL-WOUND MEMBRANE MODULES. THEY PROPOSE TO DEVELOP IMPROVED MEMBRANES AND PROCESSES FOR THE SEPARATION OF SMALL AMOUNTS OF DISSOLVED HYDROPHILIC POLAR SOLVENTS FROM WATER. THESE SOLUTIONS REPRESENT A CONSIDERABLE OPPORTUNITY FOR PERVAPORATION. IN THE PHASE I PROGRAM, THEYWILL DEMONSTRATE THE OVERALL FEASIBILITY OF THE CONCEPT IN SMALL 0.1-0.2-M(2) SPIRAL-WOUND MEMBRANE MODULES.
