Structural Energy Storage in Air Vehicle Structure

MesoScribe Technologies proposes to develop multifunctional structures that can store electrical energy as capacitance and can carry airframe loads. The Phase II effort will continue the development and fabrication of capacitive array structures. Power storage applications for near term transition will be investigated and surface engineered capacitor structures based on thermal spray technology will be examined as well as continued parametric analysis of structural designs, storage concepts, and devices. In addition, MesoScribe will examine the switching architecture and interconnects enabled by conformal Direct Write technologies. Structural analysis will be considered at each step using finite element modeling. MesoScribe will establish a capacitor energy storage array test bed to characterize various capacitive device concepts in conjunction with analytical modeling and parametric analysis. A strong multidisciplinary team has been assembled, and together with program partners Raytheon and Boeing Phantom Works, new multifunctional storage concepts will be demonstrated.
