FILADER - Fiber Laser Designator-Rangefinder

In this Phase I we propose to study and develop a laser designator and rangefinder with an architecture based on the unique features of a fiber laser. The Fiber Laser Designator-Rangefinder - FILADER would have an output beam with a divergence of lessthan 30 ¿Yrad, relative pointing stability of less than 5 ¿Yrad, and ranging accuracy better than 1 m. The proposed concept would provide extremely high stability of the transmitted beam directionality and spatial-angular characteristics, sizeablereduction in weight and dimensions of the system, and significant reduction of the heat sink requirements.In the Phase I program we will develop a breadboard system and conduct a series of proof-of-concept experiments to demonstrate the feasibility of the proposed technology. In addition, we would develop a conceptual design of a Phase II prototype system inanticipation of building this prototype during Phase II. Part of the Phase I work will also include a commercialization plan for the FILADER system.
