Abstract:
We propose to develop a new type of optical filter with these properties that is constructed using thin, alternating layers of dispersive and non-dispersive media. Like the classic interference filter, this device operates through the selective constructive and destructive interference of the optical waves. However, the use of dispersive media in the filter allows enhanced narrowing of the transmission bandwidth and switching possibilities. In addition, we expect the filter to have high throughout and high out-of-band/in-band rejection. Because the filter is constructed using thin films, it will also be compact and durable. We will construct a prototype three-layer version of this filter using dielectric media and demonstrate its effectiveness through measurements of its transmission coefficient.
