Abstract:

The worldwide culture and trade of live carp and koi is seriously affected by the spread of and mortalities due to Koi Herpes Virus, but rapid screening tools that can be utilized for testing live and food fish before import/export are not available. The purpose of this project is to evaluate the applicability of non-lethal sample sources for the detection of Koi Herpes Virus (KHV) infection, and develop and test antibodies to KHV for feasibility of use in rapid screening of stocks for active or latent infections. This will ultimately help in the prevention of further KHV spread and consequent economic losses.
