Abstract:

Mission Data Corporation proposes to develop a software tool and transformation process that analyzes existing C and Ada83 procedural source code, identifies the software objects and operations contained within that code, and re-packages those objects into C++ and Ada95 object-oriented programming languages, with the simultaneous repackaging of the new code for distribtuion amongst various computing platforms. The software tool will use a novel reengineering/redistribution process, combined with existing code parser technology, and a computer platform abstraction layer (CPAL) to achieve reengineering of the distributed source code. The main goal of the proposed Phase I effort will be to demonstrate the viability of this approach by creating a prototype tool, and testing this tool against the existing Navy IUSS Ada83 and C source code. During the project, creation of a Requirements Specification, followed by Object-Oriented Analysis, Design, and Development of the Phase I prototype will be achieved to support this goal.
