Abstract:
Commanders at all levels are charged with a tremendous responsibility to ensure success when called upon to defend America"s national interests. To accomplish this mission, commanders must use all the tools at their disposal to defeat the enemy and to do so with as few casualties as possible. The greatest asset available is intelligence delivered and acted upon before the enemy has an opportunity to counter act. Modus Operandi proposes Persistent Vigilance (PV), an innovative linguistics-based tool that addresses the challenges associated with processing overwhelming amounts of intelligence data produced in modern net-centric operations. Our approach involves the extraction of event descriptions (not just entities) using robust n algorithms that can process large volumes of textual data representing multi-source intelligence in real-time. Linguistic processing provides flexible, multi-lingual analysis. Persistent Vigilance will use the extracted events to help intelligence analysts develop predictive capabilities by alerting them when"abnormal","precursor"or"indicator"activities and events are detected and subsequently fusing the results. By targeting unstructured textual data, PV will also address advanced text analytics, an acknowledged key technology gap of DCGS-A.
