Abstract:
Metal/Bismaleimide composite couples will be tested using systematic variation of electrolyte composition, atmosphere, and metal composition to establish the damage mechanism(s) for couples exposed to salt water and for correlation with observed field behavior. Scanning electron microscopy examination will be employed to identify the location and character of localized attack. The results of these studies will be used to identify the most promising strategies for minimizing or eliminating the sources of damage.
