Contract:

Award Amount:
$69,982.00
Abstract:
An advanced, easy-to-use, passive personal insect repellent device is greatly needed for both military and general public use. While existing insect repellents and insecticides provide excellent protection against a variety of annoying and potentially deadly insects, most of the repellents are somewhat tedious to apply, have to be re-applied often, and can have offensive odors or cause minor irritation to the skin. During this program, Nanohmics will develop FluoroGuard - a simple, effective, and long-lasting passive insect repellent device that can be easily attached to any article of clothing. Relying on our expertise in biocide-impregnated plastics and the development of injection-molded cases, we have the necessary capabilities for incorporating an advanced insect repellent into a slow-release polymer formulation. The formulation will be contained in a simple polymer housing that can be opened for use when needed and closed to provide both a long storage life and usage life. Additionally, the device will be manufactured so that it is waterproof, lightweight, and exceedingly easy to use.
