Abstract:
Detection of Nuclear/Biological/Chemical (NBC) threats is becoming increasingly important in todays world of asymmetric enemies. This growing threat requires new techniques and technologies for detection of agents by individuals while wearing their protective gear. Todays methods for detection of NBC weapons do not employ technologies which would allow for miniaturization so that a wearable device could detect when it was safe to remove protective gear. Nanohmics, proposes to develop the NucleoVolt NBC detection platform, a wearable detection instrument that operates on the principle of direct electrical detection of multiple airborne agents. The core of the NucleoVolt NBC platform technology is the electrical detection. The NucleoVolt NBC platform is unlike existing detection systems in that is utilizes the emerging techniques to generate functionalized array of detection sensors. BENEFIT: The ability to perform rapid, highly sensitive and selective detection of a complex Nuclear/Chemical/Biological (NBC) profiles is paramount for applications ranging from accidental spills to terrorist attacks with industrial chemicals and NBC weapons used in battle. The ability to multiplex high sensitivity and selectivity in a robust, rechargeable, harsh environment will provide the Air Force with a tool to meet the goal of complex profiling for NBC levels.
