Abstract:
The overall goal of this SBIR program is to develop, demonstrate, and qualify an improved bridge window system for insertion on next generation DDG51 and other surface ships. The goal of the Phase II effort is to combine and transition the technologies demonstrated during Phase I into a complete, full-scale, high performance multifunctional bridge window system prototype and to determine suitability for insertion into the next DDG51 class ships. NanoSonic anticipates significant improvements over current bridge window systems and related components, which include window heater assemblies, wipers, wiper fluid delivery systems, and spinning window systems. The anticipated result is a significant reduction in window system cost, greatly reduced and simplified maintenance procedures, and significant reduction in electromagnetic signature; resulting from mitigation of the need for complex wiper fluid delivery systems, wiper motors, and window heater controls and power supplies. Following the Phase II effort, NanoSonic expects that its advanced multifunctional bridge window system will find its first application in next generation DDG51 class ships. Additional next generation ship systems will also benefit with the realization of such technologies as demonstrated within this effort.
