Abstract:
Nomadics is proposing the development of a means of incorporating a node into a simulation network that not only provides Distributed Interactive Simulation (DIS) to High Level Architecture (HLA) protocol translation, but also allows operators to makeeffective use of HLA's delivery management services without sacrificing their current DIS investment. The proposed concept will increase the effective reliability of certain links-i.e., WAN links-while simultaneously introducing compression and congestionmanagement to the simulation traffic on those same links. This Simulation Gateway combination of two nodes would form a very compelling system component to anyone attempting to make the best use of resource-constrained network segments to link DIS, HLA,or mixed DIS and HLA simulation systems. This Simulation Gateway would also be of use to anyone trying to tie together large DIS-based simulation systems even when the joining link is not resource constrained, because in decreasing the traffic between thejoined systems one decreases the traffic filtering load placed on the individual nodes.
