Existing systems are bulky and weight constrained causing their ineffectiveness in scenarios where the warfighter is woundedand requires acute medical attention in a timely manner. The proposed system will rely on advancements being made to acute care medical sensors that are amenable to ruggedization and emerging sensors that offer significant advancements over existingtechnologies and products. Subsystem components will be interfaced to a modular embedded processing system for storage while input and information display will be provided via a handheld device. The envisioned device will play a significant role inacute care situations where personnel are in need of timely and accurate vital sign monitoring and provide a means by which monitored information can be stored. The product will be advancement over the state-of-art by attempting to reduce the logisticalfootprint, weight, and bulk of the life support-monitoring requirement. The target user is military medical personnel devoted to supplying care in far-forward engagements. Logical future customers are first responders such as firefighters, EMS, andpolice. These commercial avenues will be pursued after the primary customer need is met.
