Abstract:
The primary goal this Phase II program is to develop cost effective, high performance long wavelength vertical cavity surface emitting lasers (VCSELs). To accomplish the program objectives, OCC has assembled a team of the most qualified researchers in thecountry. A simple fabrication process and device structure allows for wafer scale manufacturability and testing of the devices. The long wavelength VCSELs will facilitate the development of low cost, reliable transmitters for high speed military andcommercial datacom and telecommunications systems.The importance of rapid commercialization of this technology to OptiComp Corporation (OCC) is underscored by its commitment to cost sharing activities. These activities include funding of a parallel technical approaches to VCSEL development at variousresearch and corporate institutions. This Phase II effort offers a dual-use commercialization opportunity in the 1.3um VCSEL technology. By 2002, the 1.3um VCSELs will be readily available as
