Abstract:
A Micro-Turbojet system is vastly reduced in size, on the order of 1.0-10cm diameter with thrust from .051b to 8lbs. Micro-electronics machining (MEM) techniques are used to produce augmentation unit that is fitted to an existing successful micro-turbojet(5.0 inch diameter, 35 lbs thrust), augmenting the combustion and compression requirements. Combustor augmentation reduces the need for higher RPM for the smaller compressor wheels, and supplies extra oxygen. The MEM technology is derived from DARPA research, including mixing elements, deep LIGA processes, and an integral MEM igniter system. External compressed fuel and oxygen is used in the augmentation device, with the potential to develop the unit into a turbo ramjet propulsion system.
