Title:
STTR Phase II: Development of Fourth Generation High Temperature Materials
Agency:
NSF
Contract:
0548639
Award Amount:
$498,848.00
Abstract:
This Small Business Technology Transfer (STTR) Phase II project will develop and characterize the structure-property-processing relationships for a novel class of thermosetting organic/inorganic hybrid polyimide resins. The resins will be used to fabricate structural composites; expected properties of the composites are higher extended use temperatures, compatibility with existing fabrication procedures, and mechanical and environmental stability properties as good as currently used materials. The project will provide a scientific basis for a new class of thhermosetting resing with broad value in defense, aerospace and deep sea drilling applications. Project activities will include an experimental design to identify top performing structures, scale up and statistical analysis of batch to batch variations, preparation and testing of flat panels and targeted structures, and user testing of the structures.
