Abstract:
SECA, Inc. with the support of MESO, Inc. proposes to develop a Heated Cloud Rise Model needed for accessing environmental issues associated with rocket engine/vehicle testing. A predictive tool to describe the environmental impact of rocket exhaust plumes from nominal launches and ground tests, propellant burns, and vehicle aborts will be developed. Noxious pollutants, primarily HC1, which are expelled as combustion products from rocket engines, can cause acid rain. Smokey particulates must also be controlled or eliminated. Having the ability to quantitatively evaluate the dispersion and ultimate deposition of such exhaust products will provide an estimate of the environmental impact of engine testing and a measure of the efficiency of possible control procedures.
