Abstract:
The Air Force Research Laboratory (AFRL) is seeking the capability to identify dismounts/individuals and track dismounts and groups in an around areas and facilities of interest. Photon-X is proposing a 3D imaging system that works at a variable range of distances in real time and provides photographic quality volumetric images and can be applied to crowds or faces in crowds. Current 3D imaging techniques are not suitable for non-cooperative targets. The Photon-X volumetric system does not require that the target hold a pose in a particular location, can be used in crowds, and does provide photographic quality spectral/structural fused data. The Phase I effort successfully demonstrated 3D construction of faces, face matching 2D and 3D using a facial recognition algorithm, real-time volumetric face gesture analysis using a proprietary algorithm, building multiple faces in a simulated "crowd" environment and identifying and tracking of a specific face in a crowd based on shape. During Phase II the Volumetric Gesture Recording and Analysis System will be evolved to an even higher level of performance, and a ruggedized version incorporating a user friendly operator interface will be assembled for delivery to the AFRL customer.
