Wing and Bomb Bay Launched (WBBL) Unmanned Air Vehicle (UAV)
Agency / Branch:
DOD / NAVY
The Phase I study completed the preliminary design and mission analysis of an air vehicle responsive to the WBBL UAV requirement for a UAV system capable of being launched from a P-3 aircraft. The follow-on Phase II effort involves the detail design, fabrication, and testing of a "Proof of Concept" WBBL UAV and development of an Air Launch Kit necessary to demonstrate the key elements of the WBBL UAV concept. A Final Report will be submitted summarizing the accomplishments in Phase II and defining the follow on program to develop an operational WBBL UAV. Anticipated Benefits/Potential Commercial Applications of the Research and Development If successfully developed for use by Navy Maritime Patrol Aircraft, the WBBL UAV system would be applicable to the P-3C, its follow-on Multi-purpose Maritime Aircraft (P-8), F-18, MH-60R/S, E-2, and C-130J. Commercial applications would involve other Government agencies, including the Air Force, Special Operations Command, CIA, and Department of Homeland Security (Coast Guard, Border Patrol, Customs, and DEA). List a maximum of 8 Key Words that describe the Project Unmanned Air Vehicle (UAV), Reconnaissance, Surveillance, Maritime Operations, Mission Planning, Flight Control Systems, Littoral Warfare
