Total Ship Management System (TSMS) Operator Assistant
Agency / Branch:
DOD / NAVY
This task will develop a software prototype of the TSMS Operator Assistant and demonstrate its feasibility on TSMS data with known noise sources. TSMS is a submarine system that contains a network of acoustic and vibration sensors and centralized analysis. Ship personnel analyze the TSMS data to identify the source of noise anomalies. The TSMS Operator Assistant will decrease the operator's interaction with the TSMS system, freeing them to concentrate more on the tactical situation. To accomplish this we will utilize data mining and expert systems to automate the analysis of TSMS data to localize noise sources. The base Phase 2 effort will be accomplished in nine tasks. Those tasks will convert the noise localization procedures in the Acoustic Stealth Manual (ASM) to rules, define TSMS data cases with known noise sources to be recorded, record that TSMS data, demonstrate the ASM-derived rules on recorded TSMS data, and utilize data mining to expand the rule set to automate noise localization. The Phase 2 option effort will perform design work for a real-time and at-sea capable version of the TSMS Operator Assistant that is consistent with the requirements of the Advanced Processor Build process steps 3 and 4.
