Advanced Magnetic Signal Processing for Littoral Antisubmarine Warfare (ASW) Using an Inboard Magnetometer System

This SBIR Phase II proposal describes the development of a flight prototype of a Matched-field Gradiometer Processor (MGP) for ASW, an advanced processing approach capable of taking advantage of recent and pending advances in ultra high-sensitivity scalar laser magnetometer development for airborne and undersea ASW. Building on the foundation developed in the Phase I effort of this SBIR, this matched-field approach to magnetic gradiometer processing for magnetic anomaly detection in ASW systems will provide outstanding precision in magnetic noise reduction, detection, target parameter extraction, target localization, and prosecution/tracking. Under this SBIR project, the processing of magnetic sensor data will be demonstrated to provide target information and identification never before accomplished in real-time operation. Advanced noise reduction methodology will be refined to improve and enhance detection and localization of sea and land targets. Under this Phase II Project, the implementation of the advanced algorithm for operational use in combination with the Compact Magnetic Detection Set (CMDS) will be realized.
