Abstract:
A NOVEL, HIGH-PRESSURE CO2 LASER IS DESCRIBED WHICH UTOLIZES TRANSVERSE ELECTRODELESS RF DISCHARGE EXCITATION. THIS LASER IS POTENTIALLY CAPABLE OF CONTINUOUS WAVELENGTH TUNABILITY OVER MUCH OF THE 9 TO 11 MICRON BAND, HIGH OUTPUT ENERGY PER UNIT EXCITATION VOLUME, AND LONG SEALED LIFETIME. A RESEARCH PROGRAM IS OUTLINED WHICH EMPHASIZES DEMONSTRATION OF BROAD TUNABILITY AND MULTIMILLIJOULE OUTPUT.
