Abstract:
The opportunity is to close the gap between commercial Web technology and the Joint Battlesphere Infosphere (JBI) infrastructure. With the forward-looking approach proposed, the technology gap is reduced to a point where a buy-integrate-test developmentcycle is realizable-agents and connectors are used to mitigate COTS product alterations. We are working with emerging technologies that have a good chance of survival through big business support. The most germane are the multi-modal and mixed-initiative markup technologies that will enable the presentation and hierarchical informationretrieval JBI requires. The W3C has recognized this as a valuable standard and has plans to create a working group next year.Soon the technology gap between commercial Web and the JBI information-centric requirement will close. The Web is a paging experience with links to other pages. Push technologies providing such things as news services have been around for a couple years. Now with broadband and XML the commercial trend will migrate the Web experience to an interactive, information-based push technology where user can build information, request notification and collaborate. The transportation, industrial and investmentcommunities can benefit by this technology, hence will drive these standards.
