Abstract

THE BASIC MATHEMATICAL QUESTION TO CONSIDER IN ELECTRONIC BEAM STEERING, WITH A DISCRETE ARRAY CONSISTING OF OMNIDIRECTIONAL ELEMENTSSPACED AT EQUAL INCREMENTS ALONG A STRAIGHT LINE IS HOW COEFFICIENTS OF A POLYNOMINAL WAY BE CHOSEN, IN A ROBUST YET COMPUTATIONALLY EFFICIENT MANNER, SO AS TO ARRIVE AT A DESIRED BEAM PATTERN. IN MANY APPLICATIONS, PARTICULARLY WITH ACTIVE ARRAYS, IT IS OFTEN ADVANTAGEOUS, OR EVEN NECESSARY, FOR THESE SHADING COEFFICIENTS TO ALL HAVE THE SAME MODULUS. THE PRIMARY OBJECTIVE OF THE PHASE I RESEARCH IS TO EMPLOY THE SEMINAL KNOWLEDGE OF THE PROMETHEUS PERSONNE, IN THE FIELD OF POLYNOMINALS WITH UNIMODULAR COEFFICIENTS, TO FURTHER THE STATE OF THE ART IN ADAPTIVE ARRAY PROCESSING AND NULL STEERING.
