Abstract

Advanced technologies in ordnance and wireless telecommunications make possible a small and versatile flight termination system that could be qualified for the worst environments and then used on most AF missiles without repeating a development and qualification program for each new vehicle. The first phase of the effort would be a trade study that considers alternate technologies for the ordnance safe-arm-initiation system, the receiver/decoder section and the power source. A base-line design will be selected after technical interchange with and approval by the AF. The remainder of the Phase I effort would build a prototype of the selected design and demonstrate functionality and survivability in critical environments. The selected design will fully meet the intent of Flight Termination Systems Commonality Standard 319-92.
