A cost efficient aerothermal design tool is required for redesign for the Holloman rocket sled TPS for operating conditions in excess of Mach 10. Current hardware was designed with peak velocities at Mach 8. The proposed program is to develop a set of analytical software products which will both support DOD requirements and be a commercially viable product in the increasingly competitive aerospace market. REMTECH's approach is based on using the REM-AHEAT module of the REMTHERM set of software as the cornerstone in a new set of software. REM-AHEAT is an advanced set of user-friendly software which claims its origins in the earlier MINIVER code. The Phase I technical objective is to add shock impingement heating methodology to the existing software. The approach that REMTECH will use for developing the shock impingement heating method will be to select one or more of the empirical pressure interaction correlations developed and verified using existing experimental data. The feasibility of the analytical software shall be demonstrated in Phase I by prediction of the heating environments and identification of candidate TPS materials for a set of specific critical areas of the Holloman rocket sled.
