Abstract

While great strides have been made in converting service-specific military operations into joint operations, USAF’s Common Operating Picture (COP) is still stove-piped. Users in the field don’t have access to the information necessary to allow them to make decisions. The lack of a strong COP severely hampers the prosecution of time-sensitive targets. Today’s systems lack the ability to make the appropriate information available out to the “edge of the battlefield” where decisions can be made in a more timely manner by the individual in the best situation to make the decision or to whom the decision is most relevant. RAS will develop and demonstrate a prototype for a multi-sensor, network centric, open systems portal. The portal will be designed to allow multiple users to easily access, contribute, and consume information. It will format and display data in intuitively obvious ways, each determined by the information user. This portal development represents a significant opportunity to enable network centric operations by making information for decision-making available where and when it is needed. It will facilitate the entire emerging target process and greatly improve the prosecution of time-sensitive targets.
