Abstract:

COUPLING A BIOLOGICAL PROBE TO A MICROELECTRODE OFFERS GREATPOTENTIAL FOR DIRECT, RAPID, SENSITIVE AND SPECIFIC DETECTION OF A WIDE RANGE OF TOXINS, VIRUSES, AND BIOLOGICAL AGENTS. THE PROPOSED IMMINOCHEMICALLY COUPLED ELECTRODE (ICM) OFFERS SIGNIFICANT PROMISE FOR BROAD-SPECTRUM AND SENSITIVE DETECTION OF A VARIETY OF BIOCHEMICAL AGENTS OF PUBLIC INTEREST. ITS DEVELOPMENT ENTAILS THE MODULATION OF TRANSPORT IN MEMBRANES AND LABELLING THE MEMBRANE-ACTIVE MATERIAL. THE PHASE 1 WORK IS INTENDED TO PROVIDE A PROOF-OF-CONCEPT DEMONSTRATION OF SUCH A STRUCTURE.
