Applied Media Analysis, Inc (AMA) proposes to collaborate with the George Washington University Weight Management Program and Peaksware LLC to demonstrate the technical feasibility of MobileVision DietMonitor, a software-based solution which uses existing
camera-enabled smart phones to provide enhanced capabilities for diet and health monitoring. Our system will allow users to monitor, track , and record intake and exercise by using the device's camera, and link to a variety of related monitoring devices vi
a Bluetooth. The system will use commodity hardware for this mobile device-based pervasive monitoring and feedback solution and will provide: - Automatic entry of nutrition information through bar code scaning or by performing Optical Character Recognition
(OCR) on the nutrition label, electronic pick lists, voice recognition, or food imaging. - Monitoring of energy expenditure by linking to Bluetooth-enabled pedometers and exercise equipment, and monitor weight with Bluetooth-enabled scales. - The ability
to communicate with other monitoring devices using similar Bluetooth means (blood pressure, weight, blood sugar, etc). - Real-time communication with an online server where factors can be monitored and recommendations made from automated systems or human e
xperts. Analysis, charting, and graphing capabilities will be online. - Instant reminders sent back to the device to aid adherence to prescribed diet and/or exercise regimens.
