Abstract:
During this Phase I SBIR Program, SA Photonics has demonstrated the ability to develop a low cost, small form factor high performance Fiber Optic Gyro. The key focus of this program was to both reduce the size and the cost of this assembly, while maintaining performance to the level of navigation grade. During this Phase I, SA Photonics developed innovative solutions that would allow the use of a robust low cost light source. The source when coupled with SA Photonics wide bandwidth noise reduction allows for dramatic size reduction of the sensing coils. Bias drift is minimized by adevelopment of unique modulation of the light source. Reliability is also a key issue with FOG light sources. In Phase I, SA Photonics demonstration that source could pass repeated mechanical shock exposures in excess of 10,000g with virtually no degradatoin of the source.
