Abstract

Software Defined Radio (SDR) technology in combination with the computing power available in today's laptops and handheld computing devices has enabled the "smart radio". By adaptively combining multiple methods, operating across all seven layers of the OSI protocol stack, these SDR's can employ "cognitive assurance" to enhance mobile information assurance (IA). The proposed Phase II study builds on the work of Phase I by validating system requirements; building a functional prototype of a mobile terminal employing cognitive assurance fusing multiple biometric and radiometric methods; developing a pre-production prototype of the mobile terminal; and demonstrating interoperability with a secure legacy wireless network based during Red Team testing. The prototypes include a patent-pending, self-booting smart radio card and drivers suitable for high-assurance tactical and commercial/consumer wireless applications. The prototype system includes hardware and software developed by our subcontractors General Dynamics Decision Systems, Sonetech Corporation and Advanced Principles Group. The system voluntarily complies with the Common Criteria (CC) and Joint Tactical Radio System (JTRS) Software Communications Architecture (SCA) security and assurance guidelines.
