Design of High-Power CW Infrared Lasers

In this effort, we propose a CW, optical parametric oscillator (OP), whose emission falls within the 3.9 to 4.1 micrometer or the 4.4 to 5.0 micrometer wavelength band. The proposed systems will be based upon the nonlinear materials CdSe and/or KTiOAsO4 (KTA), or ZnGeP2 and will be designed to generate a linearly-polarized, TEMoo-mode beam. This novel system has significant application in both the DoD community and the civilian market-place. In the Phase I program, we plan to consider issues related to the construction of the systems, construct a proof-of-principle demonstration of the most promising system, and to consider issues relevant to scaling the system to higher powers.
